Marinate 500 g of cleaned and deveined prawns with 1 teaspoon of salt and 0.5 teaspoon of turmeric powder, mix well and set aside.

Place a pan on medium-high heat and add some oil.

Add 1 sliced onion and stir-fry for around 2 to 3 minutes.

Add garlic cloves, a piece of ginger, and dry red chilies, and stir for another minute.

Add grated coconut and stir, cooking until the coconut turns creamish in color.

Add 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds, 1 teaspoon of peppercorns, 0.5 teaspoon of cloves, 0.5 teaspoon of cardamom, and a small piece of cinnamon, and stir-fry for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Set the mixture aside to cool, then add 1 teaspoon of Kashmiri chili powder and grind to a fine paste with a little water if required.

Place a wok on medium-high heat and add some oil.

Add the ground masala to the oil and stir, cooking until the oil leaves the sides.

Add the marinated prawns to the masala and stir, cooking until the prawns are well coated, about 1 minute.

Add 0.5 cup of water, stir everything together, cover, and cook for 5 minutes, ensuring not to overcook the prawns.

After 5 minutes, open the lid and add 2 tablespoons of tamarind paste for tanginess.

Garnish with slit green chilies and coriander.
