Shrimp Ceviche Ecuadorian Style

Cultural Context

Ceviche is a quintessential dish in Ecuador, particularly along the coastal regions where seafood is abundant. Traditionally, Ecuadorian ceviche is distinct for its use of shrimp marinated in citrus juices, which not only cooks the shrimp but also infuses it with vibrant flavors. This dish is often served with sides like popcorn or plantain chips, making it a popular choice for gatherings and celebrations. Today, variations of ceviche can be found across Latin America, each with unique ingredients and preparations, reflecting local tastes and traditions.
