Turon, a beloved Filipino street food, showcases the country's penchant for sweet, fried snacks. Traditionally made with ripe bananas and sometimes jackfruit, these treats are wrapped in spring roll wrappers and fried until crispy. They are often enjoyed as a snack or dessert, embodying the Filipino spirit of resourcefulness and creativity in using local ingredients. Today, turon has gained popularity beyond the Philippines, appearing in various Asian markets and restaurants worldwide, delighting many with its sweet and crunchy appeal.

Whole wheat wrappers add fiber, while tortillas are often cheaper.

Coconut sugar is less processed and has a lower glycemic index.
Peel 5 ripe saba bananas.
Slice the bananas into quarters to make more pieces.
Transfer the banana pieces to a bowl.
Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to the bowl with bananas.
Gently mix the ingredients together to avoid breaking the banana pieces.
Slice the jackfruit into small pieces.
Separate the spring roll wrappers carefully to avoid tearing.
Use 2 spring roll wrappers for each turon.
Place banana pieces and jackfruit on the wrappers, pressing down to secure them.
Brush the ends of the wrappers with jackfruit syrup to help seal them.
Fold the sides of the wrappers over the filling and roll tightly to seal.
Turn on the heat to medium-high and add canola oil to the pan.
Check if the oil is hot using a bamboo chopstick; if bubbles form, the oil is ready.
Carefully place the rolled turon in the hot oil, cooking for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
After 4 minutes, flip the turon to cook the other side.
Cook for another 4 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the turon from the oil and drain on paper towels.
