Turon, a beloved Filipino street food, showcases the country's penchant for sweet, fried snacks. Traditionally made with ripe bananas and sometimes jackfruit, these treats are wrapped in spring roll wrappers and fried until crispy. They are often enjoyed as a snack or dessert, embodying the Filipino spirit of resourcefulness and creativity in using local ingredients. Today, turon has gained popularity beyond the Philippines, appearing in various Asian markets and restaurants worldwide, delighting many with its sweet and crunchy appeal.

Whole wheat wrappers add fiber, while tortillas are often cheaper.

Coconut sugar is less processed and has a lower glycemic index.
Peel and slice saba bananas in half lengthwise.
Slice jackfruit from the can into thin strips.
Place a banana half and a few jackfruit strips on a lumpia wrapper.
Sprinkle a little granulated white sugar on top of the banana and jackfruit.
Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling and roll tightly to seal.
Heat cooking oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
Carefully place the rolled turon in the hot oil, seam side down.
Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Sprinkle additional granulated white sugar over the hot turon for extra caramelization.
