Dal Dhokla

IndianINsnack
60 min
medium
4 servings
Servings4
1 cup split yellow lentils (moong dal)
1/4 cup yogurt
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp green chili paste
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds
2 green chilies, chopped
2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
1

Soak the split yellow lentils in water for 4-5 hours or overnight.

2

Drain the lentils and blend them with yogurt, turmeric powder, ginger paste, green chili paste, and salt until smooth, adding water as needed to achieve a batter-like consistency.

3

Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl and add baking soda and lemon juice. Mix well and let it rest for 15 minutes.

4

Grease a steaming tray or a round cake pan with oil.

5

Pour the batter into the greased tray and spread it evenly.

6

Prepare a steamer and bring water to a boil. Place the tray in the steamer and cover it. Steam for about 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

7

Once done, remove the tray from the steamer and let it cool for a few minutes before cutting it into squares or diamonds.

8

In a small pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add sesame seeds and chopped green chilies, sautéing for a minute.

9

Pour the tempering over the steamed dhokla pieces and garnish with fresh coriander.
