Cultural Context

Hummus has its roots in the Levant region, particularly Lebanon, where it is a staple in many households. Traditionally served as a mezze, it brings people together, often enjoyed with pita bread or fresh vegetables. Today, hummus has gained international popularity, with countless variations and flavors appearing worldwide.

LBLBside
6 servings
Servings4
2 cups cooked chickpeas
2 garlic cloves
1/4 cup olive oil
black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon powdered paprika
1/4 teaspoon oregano
juice of 1 lemon
water (as needed)
1

Add 2 cups of cooked chickpeas to the food processor.

2

Pulse the chickpeas a couple of times.

3

Add 2 garlic cloves to the food processor.

4

Pour in 1/4 cup of olive oil.

5

Add black pepper to taste.

6

Add 1 teaspoon of salt.

7

Add 1 teaspoon of powdered paprika.

8

Add 1/4 teaspoon of oregano (powdered or finely grated).

9

Squeeze the juice from 1 lemon into the mixture, using a strainer to catch seeds if necessary.

10

Blend the mixture slowly in the food processor, as it is very thick.

11

If the mixture is too thick, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until it blends smoothly.

12

Blend for about 1 minute, then check the consistency.

13

If still too thick, add another tablespoon of water and blend for 2-3 more minutes, giving the food processor short breaks in between.

14

After about 5 minutes of mixing on and off, pour the hummus into a serving dish.
