Ghana Meat Pie

Originating from the culinary traditions of West Africa, Ghana Meat Pie is a popular snack enjoyed by many. Often served at parties and gatherings, these savory pastries are filled with a flavorful mixture of spiced meat and vegetables, showcasing the rich flavors of Ghanaian cuisine. Today, variations of meat pies can be found in many countries, each with its unique twist, but the Ghanaian version remains a beloved comfort food.

Prepare the dough by mixing flour, butter, salt, and water until smooth.
Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Sauté onions and garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in diced carrots, peas, thyme, bay leaf, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Cook the filling for an additional 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
Cut out circles from the dough using a round cutter.
Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each dough circle.
Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges with a fork.
Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
Arrange the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
