Dutch apple pie, or 'appeltaart', is a beloved dessert in the Netherlands, often enjoyed during family gatherings and celebrations. It features a rich, buttery crust filled with spiced apples, making it a comforting treat. The pie is typically served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, enhancing its flavor and texture. Its popularity has spread beyond the Netherlands, becoming a favorite in many countries.

Honey is a natural sweetener.
Slice Honey Crisp and Granny Smith apples thinly and let them sit for about 10 minutes to draw out moisture.
In a bowl, combine all purpose flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and lemon juice with the apples and stir together.
Set the apple mixture aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
Roll out a prepared pie crust into a 9.5-inch by 2-inch deep pie plate.
Brush the bottom and sides of the pie crust with a beaten egg to prevent sogginess.
In another bowl, mix equal parts brown sugar and granulated sugar, flour, and butter to create the topping, using a fork and pastry cutter.
Add cinnamon to the topping if desired, but the creator prefers to keep it simple due to the spices already in the filling.
Drain excess liquid from the apple mixture and add it to the pie crust.
Generously add the topping over the apple filling.
Place the pie on a foil-lined baking sheet to catch any bubbling.
Bake the pie at 350°F for one hour.
Let the pie cool completely before slicing to prevent it from falling apart.
Serve with ice cream.
