1/2 cup Onion Paste
1/2 cup Yogurt, whipped
2 tbsp Mustard Oil
2 tbsp Refined Oil
1 tsp Sugar

Marinate the fish with turmeric, 1 tsp salt and mustard oil. Keep aside.

In a grinder add poppy seeds and green chilies and grind into a smooth paste along with some water.

Heat oil in a pan, shallow fry the fish. Once done, take it out of the pan and keep it aside to cool it down.

In the same pan, add onion paste and sauté for 8-10 minutes. Then add poppy seed paste and sauté for 2-3 more minutes.

Then add salt to taste, sugar and water and let the gravy come to a boil.

Add fried hilsa and whole red chilies. Then cover the pan and cook for 10 minutes on medium-low heat.

Then add whipped yogurt and stir to combine. Cover the pan and cook for 5-6 more minutes on medium-low heat. Turn off the heat.

Serve hot Doi Ilish with plain rice.
