Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Season the reindeer steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.
Sear the steak in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare.
Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes.
In the same skillet, add butter, garlic, and rosemary; sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add sliced onions and mushrooms; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Pour in red wine and scrape up browned bits from the skillet; simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Add beef broth and juniper berries; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
Slice the steak against the grain and serve with the mushroom sauce.
Garnish with fresh thyme and serve with roasted carrots and potatoes.
