1

Welcome to a Venezuelan flavors recipe. Today we will prepare a classic, the quesillo or caramel flan.

2

We need 700 g of eggs, which is approximately 12 units.

3

Add 30 g of rum, which is equal to 60 ml, and 15 g of vanilla extract, which is equal to 20 ml.

4

Blend all these ingredients together.

5

After blending the eggs and essences, add 600 g of sugar.

6

This amount of ingredients is for a quesillo in a 22x10 cm mold because we want it to be large and tall for portioning.

7

Now we will add powdered milk gradually.

8

Next, add 1050 ml of water, which is equal to 1.5 liters.

9

Now we have our mixture ready for the flan.

10

To make the caramel, we need a 22 cm by 10 cm mold and 200 g of sugar without water.

11

Heat the sugar until it melts completely and turns golden brown.

12

Carefully cover the entire mold with the caramel, ensuring not to burn yourself.

13

Let the caramel cool slightly before adding the flan mixture.

14

Pour the mixture into the mold.

15

Cover the mold with a lid or aluminum foil.

16

Place the mold in a larger tray for a water bath, filling the tray with hot water halfway up the sides of the mold.

17

Bake in the oven at 180°C for approximately 1.5 hours, or cook on the stovetop, which usually takes about 1 hour.

18

Check if it's done by inserting a knife in the center; if it comes out clean, it's ready.

19

Once cooled, carefully invert the quesillo onto a plate.
