Once the test kernels pop, add the rest of the popcorn kernels to the pot and cover it again.

Shake the pot gently to ensure even heating and prevent burning.

Listen for the popping to slow down, about 2-3 seconds between pops.

Once the popping slows, remove the pot from heat and let it sit for a minute to allow any remaining kernels to pop.
