Whole wheat flour adds fiber and nutrients.
In a large bowl, add 1 cup of warm milk, 1/4 cup of melted butter, and 1 large egg. Mix together.
Add 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt to the mixture.
Stir in 3 1/4 cups of flour until a shaggy dough forms.
Cover the bowl and let it rest for 20 minutes to hydrate the flour.
Knead the dough for 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough in half; keep one half plain and add 1 tablespoon of ube extract to the other half.
Knead the ube extract into the dough, adding flour if necessary to prevent stickiness.
Oil a bowl, place the dough in it, and let it rest until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shape the dough into rolls, weighing each piece to about 45 grams.
For the ube version, place a piece of Velveeta cheese inside each roll before sealing it.
Roll the shaped dough in bread crumbs and place on a baking tray.
