  • 200g unsalted butter, melted
  • 200g walnuts, chopped
  • 100g sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. 2In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. 3Take the kataifi pastry and gently separate the strands. Place a portion of the pastry in a greased baking dish.
  4. 4Drizzle some melted butter over the kataifi strands, then add a layer of the walnut mixture on top.
  5. 5Continue layering the kataifi and walnut mixture, drizzling butter in between, until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of kataifi on top.
  6. 6Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. 7While the kataifi is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  8. 8Once the kataifi is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, ensuring it is evenly soaked.
  9. 9Allow the kataifi to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
