Basbousa

1 cup semolina
1/3 cup caster sugar (6 tablespoons)
1/4 cup refined oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
a pinch of salt
3/4 cup normal temperature milk
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup caster sugar (6 tablespoons) for syrup

Take 1 cup of semolina in a bowl.

Add 1/3 cup caster sugar (6 tablespoons) and 1/4 cup refined oil.

Mix the ingredients well.

Add 1 teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt, and mix again.

Gradually add 3/4 cup of normal temperature milk while mixing.

Let the mixture sit covered for at least 15 minutes.

In a separate pan, add 1/2 cup water and 1/3 cup caster sugar (6 tablespoons) for syrup.

Add 2 drops of kewra essence to the syrup mixture and mix well.

Bring the syrup to a boil on medium heat, then turn off the flame and set aside.

Grease a baking dish with oil and dust with flour or semolina.

After 15 minutes, mix the batter again and pour it into the greased dish.

Score the batter for decoration and add almonds on top.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

Bake for at least 250 minutes until golden brown.
