Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.

Grease a glass deep dish pie dish lightly with some of the tablespoonful of margarine, and place the sliced apples inside.

Dot the apples with the remaining tablespoon of margarine.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well.

Cut in the 1/2 cup margarine to make coarse crumbs.

Spread the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.

Bake for about 30 minutes until the apples are soft and the crumbs are browned and starting to caramelize.
