1

Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2

Grab 5 to 6 apples, about 2 and 1/2 lb, using a combination of Granny Smith and Honey Crisp.

3

Peel the apples, cut the flesh from the core, and slice them into thin slices.

4

Transfer the sliced apples to a big bowl.

5

Add 2 Tbsp of lemon juice to the apples and toss them.

6

Add 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1 Tbsp of flour, 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg to the apples and mix well.

7

Transfer the apple mixture to an 8x8 inch pan, optionally greasing it first.

8

Spread the apples into an even layer in the pan.

9

Cube 1/4 cup of butter and sprinkle it over the apples.

10

In a large bowl, combine 1 and 1/4 cups of rolled oats, 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp of salt.

11

Mix the dry ingredients together until evenly distributed.

12

Add 3/4 cup of cold butter cut into cubes to the dry mixture.

13

Use your hands to work the butter into the mixture until crumbly, with pieces the size of peas.

14

If the mixture becomes too warm, refrigerate it to firm up the butter.

15

Crumble the topping mixture over the apples evenly, breaking up any large chunks.

16

Bake in the oven at 350°F for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and the juices are bubbling.

17

Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before plating.

18

Serve with a scoop of ice cream.
