Garlic bread has roots in Mediterranean cuisine, often enjoyed as a side dish or appetizer. It is particularly popular in Italian-American dining, where it complements pasta dishes. Today, variations abound globally, with different herbs and cheeses enhancing the classic recipe.
Turn on low heat on a small saucepan.
Add 3/4 cup unsalted butter to the pan to melt.
Break off 4 cloves of garlic and peel them.
Chop the garlic finely with a knife or use a garlic press.
Once the butter has melted, add the chopped garlic to the butter and turn off the heat.
Let the garlic steep in the butter for about 3 minutes.
Split the 14-ounce loaf of French bread in half lengthwise using a bread knife.
Place the bread on a rimmed baking sheet.
Add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of dried parsley to the garlic butter and stir with a pastry brush.
Brush the garlic butter mixture generously on top of the bread halves, ensuring to include the garlic chunks.
Bake the bread in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes.
Check the bread; if it needs more browning, switch the oven to broil for 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
Once cool enough to handle, transfer the bread to a cutting board and slice it up.
Serve warm, or freeze the other half for later use.
