Today, Cicerchiata is enjoyed across Italy, with variations reflecting local ingredients and customs.

Divide the dough into small pieces and roll into thin strips.
Cut the strips into small pieces and shape them into small balls.
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat until shimmering.
Fry the dough balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
In a separate pot, heat honey until it becomes liquid.
Combine the fried dough balls with the warm honey, mixing well to coat.
Transfer to a serving platter and shape into a mound or wreath.
Garnish with candied fruit and nuts, and dust with powdered sugar.
Allow to cool slightly before serving.
