Kelewele is a beloved street food from Ghana, made from ripe plantains seasoned with a blend of spices. Traditionally enjoyed as a snack or side dish, it reflects the vibrant flavors of West African cuisine. Today, Kelewele has gained popularity beyond Ghana, often served at parties and gatherings, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Cut the ginger into smaller pieces, leaving the skin on, and wash it thoroughly.
Cut the pepper and onion into pieces for blending.
Add the ginger, pepper, onion, wentia, and peppercorns into a blender with a little water to help blend.
Peel the plantains after washing them to remove any dirt.
Cut the plantains diagonally while keeping them together for a better shape.
Place the cut plantains in a bowl and season with salt to taste, ensuring not to overdo it to maintain the sweetness.
Add the spice blend to the plantains and mix well to coat them evenly.
Heat oil in a pan until hot before adding the plantains to fry.
Fry the plantains for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.
Check for doneness; they should be well caramelized and the spices should stick to them.
