Chana Dal

2 cups chana dal, soaked
3-4 medium tomatoes, diced
6-7 garlic cloves
2 inch ginger, whole
2 green chillies, finely chopped
Salt to taste
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 tbsp oil
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp fresh coriander, finely chopped

Add tomatoes, garlic, ginger, green chillies and salt to a blender. Make a puree out of it. Roughly chop the ginger and garlic before adding.

In a non-stick pressure cooker, heat some oil and add onions, sauté till they turn golden brown.

Add the chana dal and salt, sauté for 4-5 minutes. Add turmeric powder, sauté for another 5-6 mins.

Add the tomato puree and green chillies. Add ¼ cup water, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Cover the pressure cooker and cook till 4-5 whistles.

Once the whistles are done, simmer the dal for 15 minutes. Add crushed coriander and mix.

Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot with steamed rice.
