Today, variations can be found across the globe, adapting to local ingredients while maintaining its essence.

Start by seasoning your meat of choice.
Add bay leaves, blended ginger, garlic, and onion to the meat.
Add a little water and cover to steam the meat.
Let the meat steam for about 1 hour and 20 minutes until tender.
Wash the okra twice and shred it for a slimy texture.
Set the shredded okra aside.
Preheat water (about 1 cup) in a clean pot over medium heat.
Add the okra to the preheated water and let it cook.
In another pot, heat palm oil and add fermented fish, cooking for a minute.
Add 1 medium diced onion to the palm oil and let it cook for a minute.
Blend fresh ginger, garlic, and onion without adding water.
Add the blended mixture to the pot after the onion has cooked for 1-2 minutes.
Let the mixture cook for about 5 minutes.
Check the okra; it should be slimy.
Cut 2 medium tomatoes and add them to the stew, ensuring not to add too many to maintain the slimy texture.
Add your favorite seasoning to the stew.
Add spinach and kale if desired, then add the cooked meat.
Stir in the meat and any other preferred ingredients (fish, crab, cow skin).
Add garlic eggs or summer squash and let it cook for a minute.
Check on the banku cooking on the stove; it should be boiling.
Once the banku is done, cut the spinach and kale and add them to the stew.
Stir everything together and let it cook for another minute.
Add the cooked okra to the stew and mix well.
Garnish with raw onion for crunchiness, if desired.
Let the stew cook for another minute before serving.
