Kootu Curry

1 cup chana dal
2 cups raw plantain (or elephant yam)
1 cup grated coconut
2 green chilies
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste

Soak the chana dal in water for 2-3 hours.

In a pot, add soaked chana dal and water. Cook until soft.

In a blender, combine grated coconut, green chilies, and cumin seeds. Blend to a smooth paste.

Add the blended coconut paste, turmeric powder, and salt to the cooked dal. Mix well.

Add diced raw plantain (or elephant yam) and cook until the vegetables are tender.

Adjust the consistency with water if needed and simmer for a few minutes.

Serve hot with rice.
