1

Sift 1 1/4 cups of plain flour into a bowl.

2

Add 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of salt to the flour and sift together.

3

Add 2 tbsp of caster sugar (or 3 tbsp of powdered sugar) to the sifted dry ingredients.

4

In a separate bowl, combine 2 tbsp of melted butter, 1 tsp of lemon juice, 1 tbsp of vanilla essence, 1/4 cup of water, and 1 1/2 cups of milk.

5

Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients to create a pouring consistency batter.

6

Divide the batter into two parts; add red gel food color to one part to create a pink batter.

7

Grease a heart-shaped silicone waffle mold with a little butter.

8

Pour the white batter into three of the petals of the mold and the pink batter into two of the petals.

9

Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).

10

Place the filled mold in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.

11

While the waffles are baking, prepare the strawberry compote by roughly chopping 10-12 strawberries.

12

In a pan, add the chopped strawberries and 2 1/2 tbsp of caster sugar (or 2 tbsp of regular sugar).

13

Cook the strawberries until they are slightly soft, then add 1 tsp of lemon juice and mix well.

14

Remove the strawberry compote from the heat once ready.

15

Check on the waffles after 20 minutes and carefully un-mold them once they are crisped from the top.

16

Plate the warm waffles and drizzle with melted butter, honey, or maple syrup.

17

Add warm Nutella on top of the waffles and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
