Gaufres, or Belgian waffles, originated in Belgium and are celebrated for their light, airy texture and deep pockets, perfect for holding toppings. Traditionally enjoyed as a street food or dessert, they are often served with whipped cream, fruits, or syrup. In modern times, gaufres have gained popularity worldwide, inspiring variations such as the Brussels and Liège waffles, each with unique textures and flavors.

Coconut oil adds a unique flavor while reducing saturated fats.

Crack 3 eggs into a large bowl.
Add 2 cups of whole milk to the eggs.
Mix in 1/4 cup of melted butter that has been cooled.
Add 3 tablespoons of white granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Also add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and whisk until combined.
Set the wet ingredients aside.
In another bowl, combine 1 and 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 and 3/4 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and whisk together.
Sift the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients for better texture.
Stir the batter and let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours for improved flavor and texture.
Preheat the waffle iron and grease it with vegetable oil.
Ladle out the runny batter into the waffle iron, letting gravity help cover the surface without overfilling.
Let the batter set for a few seconds before closing the waffle iron lid.
Cook the waffles until they are crispy on the outside and chewy inside, adjusting the heat setting as needed.
Remove the waffles and keep warm while repeating with remaining batter.
Heat a bowl of Nutella over simmering water to make it pourable.
Drizzle the warmed Nutella over the waffles and top with whipped cream before serving.
