Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a hot wok.
Add 1/2 finely diced onion to the wok and stir for 2-3 minutes until soft and translucent.
Add ground beef to the wok and cook for 4-5 minutes until it starts to brown.
Make a paste with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and a spoon of beef stock.
Add the cornstarch paste to the beef mix along with tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
Mix everything together and allow it to simmer for about 8 minutes until the sauce is thick.
Transfer the beef mixture to a bowl and season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper; mix well.
Set the filling aside to cool for about 30 minutes.
Roll out homemade shortcrust pastry and cut it using a larger dough cutter for the base.
Roll out store-bought puff pastry and cut it using a smaller dough cutter for the top.
Assemble the pies with about 2 oz (1.5 tablespoons) of filling in each.
Bake the pies for about 8 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
