Today, they are enjoyed not only for breakfast but also as a versatile snack or dessert, often topped with fruit, syrup, or whipped cream.

Whole wheat starter adds fiber, while self-rising flour simplifies the recipe.

Coconut oil is dairy-free and adds flavor, while margarine is often less expensive.
Add 450 to 500 g of sourdough discard to a mixing bowl.
Crack in 2 large eggs.
Add 50 g of honey to the bowl.
Pour in 25 g of oil.
Add 5 g of salt and 5 g of baking powder.
Mix well until combined.
Cook in your preheated waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Repeat with the remainder of the batter.
Feel free to add any inclusions you desire, such as vanilla, cinnamon, or citrus zest to the batter, and add fruit, chocolate, or sprinkles to the waffle maker.
