Shrimp Stock

Cultural Context

Shrimp stock is a foundational element in many coastal cuisines, particularly in regions where seafood is abundant. It is often used as a base for soups, sauces, and risottos, enhancing the dish with a rich, briny flavor. Traditionally, shrimp stock is made from the shells of shrimp, which are often discarded, thus utilizing every part of the seafood. In modern cooking, it has gained popularity for its ability to elevate dishes and is commonly found in various international recipes, from gumbo to paella.
