Originating from the southern Indian state of Kerala, banana chips are a beloved snack made from the Nendran variety of bananas. Traditionally served during festivals and special occasions, they are a crunchy delight that embodies the tropical flavors of the region. Today, they are popular not just in India but have also found a place in global snack culture, often enjoyed as a healthy alternative to potato chips.

Avocado oil is healthier while vegetable oil is more budget-friendly.
Wash the green bananas thoroughly before peeling them.
Peel the green bananas completely.
Slice the bananas thinly using a plain blade knife or a mandoline.
Fry the banana slices in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan until hot, then check with one slice to see if it fries well.
Fry the banana slices until they are crispy, which takes about 1-2 minutes.
Once crispy, remove the chips using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil.
Immediately sprinkle salt and turmeric water over the hot chips for flavor.
For traditional style, you can also grate the bananas directly into the hot oil to avoid sticking.
Mix the chips well with the seasoning after frying.
