Often enjoyed as a snack or dessert, it is characterized by its chewy texture and sweet flavor, typically enhanced with coconut. This beloved treat is commonly served during celebrations and gatherings, reflecting the Filipino spirit of hospitality. Today, variations of kutsinta can be found in many regions, showcasing local ingredients and preferences.

Coconut sugar offers a lower glycemic index.

Almond milk is lower in calories, while evaporated milk is more affordable.
Combine warm water and brown sugar. Whisk until sugar is dissolved.
Add pandan flavor and lye water. Stir.
Add all-purpose flour and tapioca starch. Whisk until smooth and no lumps.
Combine atsuete or annatto seeds and hot water. Mix until the seeds extract a red color.
Add the annatto extract to the mixture. Stir until just combined.
Transfer the mixture into individual molds.
Steam for about 20 minutes or until mixture is firm and no longer watery. You can also test with a toothpick if ready.
Remove from steamer and let it cool completely.
Remove kutsinta from each mold. Serve with grated coconut.
