Brazilian Lemonade

Cultural Context

Originating from Brazil, this refreshing drink is a popular choice during hot days and festive gatherings. It combines the tartness of limes with the creaminess of sweetened condensed milk, creating a unique flavor profile. Today, Brazilian lemonade is enjoyed in various parts of the world, often adapted with different fruits or flavors.

Servings4
4 limes
1 cup sugar
6 cups water
6 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
ice
1

Wash the limes under warm water to remove any wax or pesticides.

2

Cut off the ends of the limes and cut each lime into eight pieces.

3

Look for juicy limes that you can squeeze slightly.

4

In a blender, add half of the sugar (1/2 cup), half of the water (3 cups), and half of the cut limes (2 limes).

5

Pulse the blender 5 to 7 times to break up the limes without making the lemonade bitter.

6

Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or sieve into a pitcher, using the back of a spoon to press and extract as much juice as possible.

7

Repeat the pulsing and straining process with the remaining ingredients (the other half of the sugar, water, and limes).

8

Add 6 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk to the strained lime juice and stir to combine.

9

Add a lot of ice to the pitcher and garnish with additional lime slices for presentation.

10

Serve in glasses with straws, optionally garnishing with thin lime discs on the edges.
