Instructions
- 1Rinse the toor dal and soak it for 30 minutes.
- 2Cook the soaked dal in water until soft.
- 3In a separate bowl, mix whole wheat flour with water to form a dough.
- 4Roll out the dough into thin discs and cut into strips.
- 5Add the cooked dal to a pot with spices and bring to a simmer.
- 6Add the dough strips to the dal and cook until they are tender.

- ●1 cup split red lentils (daal)
- ●4 cups water
- ●1 tsp turmeric powder
- ●1 tsp cumin seeds
- ●1 onion, finely chopped
- ●2 green chilies, slit
- ●2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ●Salt to taste
- ●2 cups basmati rice
- ●4 cups water (for rice)
- ●1 bay leaf
- ●2-3 cloves
- ●1-2 cardamom pods
Instructions
- 1Rinse the split red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- 2In a pot, combine the lentils, 4 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-25 minutes until the lentils are soft.
- 3In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- 4Add the chopped onion and green chilies to the pan. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- 5Once the lentils are cooked, add the sautéed onion mixture to the lentils and stir well. Adjust salt if necessary and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
- 6In another pot, rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- 7Add 4 cups of water, bay leaf, cloves, and cardamom pods to the rice pot. Bring to a boil.
- 8Once boiling, add the rinsed rice and a pinch of salt. Stir gently, then cover and reduce heat to low.
- 9Cook for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is fluffy and all the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.
- 10Fluff the rice with a fork and serve it alongside the daal.
