Servings4
10 g pressed yeast
200 ml warm milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
400 g flour
1 onion
400 g ground meat
salt to taste
a little water if desired
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon water for egg wash
1

Prepare the dough by mixing warm milk with sugar and yeast; let it sit until frothy for about 5-10 minutes.

2

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; create a well in the center.

3

Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the flour; mix until a dough forms.

4

Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 8-10 minutes.

5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

6

While the dough rises, heat sunflower oil in a skillet over medium heat; sauté chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.

7

Add ground meat to the skillet; cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

8

Season the meat mixture with salt and let cool.

9

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

10

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal pieces.

11

Roll each piece into a circle; place a spoonful of meat filling in the center.

12

Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal; shape into an oval.

13

Place the pirozhki on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

14

Brush the tops with a mixture of egg yolk and water for a golden finish.

15

Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
