Over the years, variations have emerged, with different fillings and spices reflecting local tastes, making them a staple in Caribbean cuisine.

Ground pork is typically cheaper and offers a similar texture.
Scoop 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour into a large bowl.
Cut 8 ounces of cold butter into cubes and add to the flour.
Add a pinch of salt to the flour and butter mixture.
Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs, about 3 minutes.
Pour in ice cold water gradually and mix gently to form a dough without kneading.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and flatten it into a disk; refrigerate for 45 minutes.
Prepare the beef filling by heating a pan with 1 heaping teaspoon of soybean oil.
Add the seasoning blend to the pan and cook for a moment.
Brown 1 pound of ground beef in the pan with the seasoning and a little tomato, about 5-7 minutes.
Remove the beef from the heat and let it cool completely before using.
For the tuna filling, drain the canned tuna and mix with desired seasonings.
