Kunafa

300 g kunafa dough/roasted vermicelli/lachha sewai
3/4 cup unsalted butter/ghee
1 1/2 cups cream
3/4 cup Mozzarella cheese
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
2 tsp Rose water
2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp orange food color (optional)
1/4 cup pistachios coarsely grounded

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Melt butter in a large bowl and mix with kunafa dough until evenly coated.

Spread half of the kunafa mixture in a greased baking dish, pressing down firmly.

In a saucepan, combine cream, sugar, and water over medium heat until sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat and stir in rose water, lemon juice, and orange food color.

Pour the cream mixture over the first layer of kunafa in the baking dish.

Top with the remaining kunafa mixture, pressing down gently.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Drizzle with sugar syrup made from sugar and water (boil until thick) if desired.

Sprinkle chopped pistachios on top before serving.
