2

In a bowl, add 4 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of fine salt; mix together.

3

After 15 minutes, the yeast should have doubled in size; add 1 more cup of warm water to the mixture.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth; if using an electric mixer, let it do the work.

5

Grease a bowl with oil, cover the dough, and let it sit for 1 hour until doubled in size.

6

Punch down the dough, cut it in half, and divide into 10 pieces; let them rest for 10 minutes.

Roll each piece into a long rope, starting from the middle and working outward.

8

Twist the rope into a pretzel shape, folding and pinching the ends together.

In a pot of boiling water, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda; drop the pretzels in for about 5 seconds each.

10

Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt and bake at 400°F for 15 minutes.
