Prepare a half sheet pan with parchment paper, drawing a 12 by 9 inch rectangle on it.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a mixing bowl, cream together 1 stick of softened butter and 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of sugar on medium speed until light and creamy.
In a separate bowl, mix together 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, a pinch of salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar.
Add 4 egg yolks to the butter and sugar mixture one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Pour in 4 tablespoons of whole milk and mix until incorporated.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture while mixing on low speed to avoid flour spilling out.
Once combined, scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix on medium speed until the batter is smooth and thick, resembling brownie batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Once baked, let the cake cool completely in the pan before proceeding to the next steps.
