Portuguese Prego Roll
Cultural Context
The Prego Roll is a beloved Portuguese sandwich, traditionally made with marinated beef steak served in a soft bread roll. Originating from the street food culture of Portugal, it is often enjoyed as a quick lunch or snack. The name 'Prego' refers to the word 'nail' in Portuguese, as the sandwich is said to be 'nailed' together with the steak and toppings. Today, variations abound, with different meats and sauces, making it a popular choice in many Portuguese-speaking countries and beyond.

Combine all the marinade ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour the marinade over the steak and allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 24 hours, covered in the fridge.
To cook the steak, heat a large griddle pan, skillet or outside grill until scorching hot then cook the steaks quickly on both sides and cooked to your preference.
Remove from the heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
For the chilli butter, combine the chopped chillies and butter and mix well.
To serve, half the bread rolls and spread on the chilli butter.
Top with the cooked steak and add sliced tomatoes and onion.
Extra BrazzaKu sauce adds extra flavour and makes for a delicious juicy treat.
