Brown rice offers more fiber and nutrients, while parboiled rice is often less expensive.

Rinse rice under cold water until water runs clear to remove starch.

Set the rinsed rice aside.

Start frying the onions in butter until translucent.

Add garlic to the onions and fry until fragrant.

Add the rice to the onion and garlic mixture and fry for 1-2 minutes.

Add enough hot water to cover the rice.

Add salt to the water and taste to ensure it's salty enough.

Turn the heat to high and wait for the water to boil.

Once boiling, check if there's enough water; add more if necessary to prevent burning.

Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low to let the rice cook in the trapped steam.

After about five minutes, check the rice for doneness; if it's not cooked, add a bit more water and cover again.
