Brown rice offers more fiber and nutrients, while parboiled rice is often less expensive.

Start with a heavy pot for cooking rice.

Use a ratio of double the amount of water to rice (1 cup rice = 2 cups water).

Rinse 2 cups of long grain rice in a bowl to remove excess starch, swirling it around twice.

Drain the water, catching the rice with your hand instead of using a strainer.

Add the rinsed rice to the pot.

Add 4 cups of water to the pot with the rice.

Turn the heat on high and optionally add salt (the creator does not use salt).

Add a couple tablespoons of canola oil to the pot and stir it around.

Cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat after boiling.

Let the rice cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, checking that the lid remains on to keep the heat inside.

After 10 minutes, check if the rice is done by tilting the pot; if there's no water left, turn off the heat.

Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
