Made primarily from gram flour (besan), these cookies are a delightful treat often enjoyed during festivals and celebrations. Their crumbly texture and rich flavor make them a favorite among many, and they are frequently paired with tea or served as a sweet snack. Today, variations exist with different flours and flavors, but the classic besan version remains beloved across India.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Sift besan and baking powder into a bowl.
In a separate bowl, cream ghee and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Add cardamom powder and salt to the creamed mixture, mixing well.
Gradually add the sifted besan mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring until combined.
If the dough is too dry, add a little milk to bring it together.
Shape the dough into small balls and flatten them slightly.
Place the shaped cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Garnish each cookie with chopped nuts, pressing them in gently.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Store in an airtight container once completely cooled.
