Sweet Plantains with Savory Beef Filling

Sweet plantains, known as 'kelewele' in Ghana, are often enjoyed as a snack or side dish. The combination of sweet and savory flavors reflects the rich culinary traditions of West Africa. This dish is a beloved comfort food, often served at gatherings and celebrations, showcasing the versatility of plantains. Today, variations can be found in many cultures, with fillings ranging from meats to vegetarian options, making it a global favorite.
ground beef

Ground turkey reduces fat while maintaining flavor.
vegetable oil
🥗Healthier: coconut oil
💰Cheaper: canola oil
Coconut oil adds a unique flavor, while canola oil is more affordable.
Wash the plantains and cut them up.
Place the cut plantains in a boiling pot and boil for about 10-15 minutes.
While the plantains are boiling, warm up the pre-cooked ground beef.
After boiling, take the plantains out and let them cool slightly.
Add 1 cup of flour to the plantains for thickness and mix until you get a good consistency.
Oil your hands and take a scoop of the plantain mixture, flatten it out.
Stuff the flattened plantain with the warmed ground beef and shape it back together.
Brush the outside with a little olive oil to smooth it out.
Place the stuffed plantains in the oven for about 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, take them out and serve with spicy chipotle sauce.
