In a bowl, mix 2 cups of cornmeal with enough water to cover; set aside.

Once okra is cooked, pour off excess water but leave about 3/4 cup in the pot.

Pour cornmeal mixture into the pot with okra water and stir constantly for about 35 minutes until thickened.

Add more water as needed to achieve desired texture while stirring constantly.

Grease a bowl with butter and transfer the cooked cou-cou mixture into it, shaping it into a smooth ball.

Serve cou-cou with gravy, sweet potato, okra, and pickled cucumber.
