Swedish Cinnamon Rolls

Today, they have gained popularity worldwide, with variations that include different spices and fillings, reflecting local tastes.

250 mL milk
40 g sugar
80 g melted butter
400 g flour
pinch of salt
2 teaspoons of ground cardamom
1/2 beaten egg
90 g butter
1 tablespoon of flour
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of cardamom
1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar
100 g of brown sugar
1/2 beaten egg
Pearl sugar

Mix the warm milk with the active yeast. Cover it with a kitchen cloth and let it rest for 15 min.

Add the milk with the yeast to the melted butter and mix.

Add the white sugar and mix.

In a different bowl, mix the flour with the cardamom and the pinch of salt.

Add the previous mix to the bowl with the flour and also add half of the beaten egg.

Mix everything and if needed add a little bit more of flour.

Knead until the dough is a ball and cover it with a cloth.

Let it rest for 1 hour in a warm environment.

Add the filling ingredients into a bowl and mix them. Heat in the microwave for easier mixing.

Knead for a few minutes and make a large rectangle with the dough.

Spread the filling over the dough with a spatula.

Fold the dough twice and eliminate bubbles by pressing down.

Cut the dough into approximately 2 cm strips and twist them into knots.

Place the rolls in oven trays and cover them. Let them rise for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 200 ºC.

Use the remaining half of the beaten egg to paint the buns.

Sprinkle pearl sugar on top.

Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
