Today, it has gained popularity beyond the Bahamas, with variations appearing in Caribbean cuisine and beyond, making it a cherished treat for many.

Coconut cream offers a dairy-free option, while evaporated milk is often less expensive.

Fresh coconut adds natural flavor, while desiccated coconut is more affordable.
Start by adding coconut water to a hot pot.
Add 1.5 cups of dry coconut into the coconut water.
Add more coconut water until the coconut absorbs it all.
Add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 0.5 teaspoon of allspice, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 0.5 teaspoon of nutmeg, a pinch of salt, and a little condensed evaporated milk to the pot.
Cook the mixture until it evaporates and thickens.
Remove the coconut filling from the pot and let it cool.
In a bowl, combine 0.33 cup of sugar and 0.33 cup of butter, mixing well.
Add the egg yolk to the mixture and combine.
Incorporate flour, a pinch of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of baking soda, a little allspice, and cinnamon into the mixture.
Knead the dough and refrigerate it.
Roll out the dough and place it into a tart pan.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Bake the tarts in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Remove the tarts from the oven and let them rest before cutting.
