Marinate hilsa fish pieces with turmeric powder and salt.

Soak black and yellow mustard seeds in water.

Blend soaked mustard seeds with 1 green chili and a little bit of salt until smooth.

In a mixing bowl, combine ½ tsp salt, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, and mustard paste.

Add selected green chilies to the mixture and mix well.

Add hilsa fish pieces to the mixture and coat them well with the spices.

Take a big dry aluminium tiffin box and add the mustard oil.

Transfer the coated fish pieces into the tiffin box and close the lid.

Heat water in a cauldron and place the tiffin box inside, ensuring water does not enter the box.

Press down on the tiffin box with a heavy pestle to prevent shaking during steaming.

Steam for 30 minutes on low flame.

After 30 minutes, turn off the gas and open the lid of the tiffin box.

Serve with steamed basmati rice.
