Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
Grease and dust a bundt pan, sprinkle crushed walnuts in the pan.
In a bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup unsalted butter and 1 and 1/2 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add 1 egg and mix well, then add another egg and mix, and repeat for a total of 4 eggs.
Stir in 1/2 cup milk, 3/4 cup dark rum, and 2 tsp vanilla extract, mixing well.
In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup corn starch, and 3 tsp baking powder, then mix until combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and spread it nicely.
Bake for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove the pan from the oven and prepare the syrup by heating 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup dark rum, and 1/4 cup water until syrupy.
Pour the hot syrup over the cake very slowly and let the cake soak the syrup for 5 minutes.
Transfer the cake to a cooling rack and let it cool completely before serving.
