1

Start by making the sauce for the Fetteh.

2

In a bowl, combine 2 cups of Greek or Mediterranean yogurt, 4 cloves of minced garlic, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1/2 cup tahini sauce, and 1 cup water.

3

Add 1/2 cup of water first to check the consistency and whisk with a wire whisk until well mixed.

4

If the sauce is too thick, add a little more water until desired consistency is reached.

5

In a separate bowl, mix 1 lb of ground beef and 1/4 lb of lamb with 1/2 teaspoon black pepper and 1 teaspoon salt.

6

Form the meat mixture into small meatballs, using about 1/2 teaspoon of the mixture for each meatball.

7

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and cook the meatballs for about 10 minutes until browned.

8

Alternatively, brown the meat mixture in the pan without forming meatballs if preferred.

9

Toast 3 whole wheat pita breads in the oven until slightly brown, then cut them up into pieces.

10

In a deep dish (about 2 inches deep), layer the toasted pita pieces at the bottom.

11

In a small pot, heat a 16 oz can of chickpeas (rinsed) with 1/2 cup of water for about 10 minutes.

12

Add the heated chickpeas on top of the pita layer, spreading them out evenly.

13

Add the browned meatballs on top of the chickpeas.

14

Pour the yogurt mixture over the entire layered dish, using a spatula to ensure all the sauce is used and covers the meatballs.

15

In a shallow pan, melt and brown some butter for about 3 minutes.

16

Brown some pine nuts in 1 tablespoon of olive oil on low heat, stirring to prevent burning.

17

Sprinkle the browned pine nuts on top of the dish along with 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley for garnish.
