Chop 1 kg of onion and sauté in 200 ml of sunflower oil on the stove for 4-5 minutes.

Add 300 g of sliced smoked Kaizer to the onion and mix.

Pour in 100 ml of tomato juice and add 300 g of round grain rice and 300 ml of water.

Mix and leave on low heat until the water drops, then take off the heat and let cool.

Once cooled, add 1 kg of minced meat (pork and beef mixture), ground pepper, 1 teaspoon of thyme, 1 teaspoon of dried dill, and 2 tablespoons of cornmeal to the rice mixture and mix everything together.

Take a cabbage leaf from a head of sauerkraut, place a spoonful of the mixture on it, roll it up, and tuck in the ends.

Chop the remaining cabbage leaves and distribute them on the bottom of the pot along with a few sprigs of dried dill and a few peppercorns.

Layer the rolled sarmale in the pot, adding slices of smoked Kaizer in between layers.

Cover the sarmale with chopped cabbage leaves and add enough water to cover them.

Cover with a lid and boil on low heat for about 1 to 1.5 hours.
