Originating from the Mediterranean region, Swiss chard has been cultivated since antiquity for its nutritious leaves and stems. In Swiss cuisine, it is often featured in hearty dishes, reflecting the country's agricultural heritage. Today, Swiss chard is embraced globally for its versatility and health benefits, appearing in salads, sautés, and as a filling in various recipes.
Quantities are estimated based on standard recipes for your convenience. The actual ingredients used in this video are accurate.
Remove the stems from the Swiss chard and slice them.
Chunk up the rest of the chard.
Dice about 1/4 cup of onions.
Juice half of a small lemon.
Clean the greens using a salad spinner or preferred method.
Heat a 10-inch skillet to medium-high heat (about 4 or 5).
Add olive oil, salt, and pepper to the skillet.
Add onions and chard stems to the skillet and sprinkle with salt.
Cook for about 4 minutes until onions are translucent or browned as desired.
Optionally add spices like cumin, chili powder, or curry before adding greens.
Add the greens to the skillet, increase heat to about 6, and add more salt.
Cook greens for about 2 to 3 minutes until wilted, tasting as you go.
Add lemon juice and salt to taste.
